May 25th, 2012 - Last Concert Ever!
Wow today was such a hectic day! Starting from after school, I went home around 4 and I decided to take a nap. I was suppose to be at the sound check at 5:30 but I woke up a bit late. When I got to the sound check all the seniors were getting their medals and flowers so I was technically on time. After the sound check I hung around with a bunch of people and we had some great laughs.
So 6th period percussion went first and they had some very interesting pieces. Alice’s music fell while she played piano but she kept going, she’s good. Then came Monday Afternoon Percussion and they played some INTENSE music. My favorite is the Plains, Capes, and Turnips arranged by the tall guy, David, in the picture above.
After quite a long yet pretty quick stage change, it was Symphonic Band’s turn. Before we went on stage, a fellow flute member put down is $4,000 flute and then couldn’t find it. They tried asking some SWE flutists but who would want to lend someone they don’t know their flute. So I gave them my flute and rushed to find Christine and I borrowed her flute. Thanks Christine, YOU SAVED US! It was amazing that I got pretty in tune. We played Into the Clouds, Amazing Graze, and Mount Everest. I felt like I was going to cry during Mount Everest, it’s so touching.
After us was SWE and they played a very difficult, interesting, beautiful, and long piece. I didn’t think I was going to make it through their piece. David had to leave but I wanted a picture with him so he and I snuck out to the lobby to take a quick picture. Before the last piece Mr. Boitz announced the scholarships and awards. Congratulations to everyone who received an award! Then Mr. Boitz starts describing someone who is always in the band room early in the morning, who bakes lots of cookies and cupcakes, and etc. (it all happened so quick I couldn’t remember what he said) and I was thinking to myself, “OH SHI- Is it me?!?!” Three years ago my friend’s brother passed away, his family is super close with the Saratoga Music Department. His mother works at our school managing a lot of things for the department. She’s such a wonderful person, I’m going to miss her so much. They have decided to create a scholarship in the honor of their son that passed away. Tonight I am the first recipient of the scholarship. I’m so thankful and grateful to be honored that words cannot express my feelings. As Mr. Boitz announced my name tears came to my eyes because I had felt that I didn’t matter and all the things I’ve done were taken for granted. Thank you so much for recognizing my efforts. I love the band so much and I enjoy helping out but knowing that people care about me like this means so much.
I’m so grateful to be a part of this wonderful program and I want to thank all my friends and classmates who have made this journey. WHOOO BAND CLASS OF 2012 WE DID IT! Thanks everyone for making these four years super special. I LOVE YOU GUYS!
